All About Vasectomies
The Different Types Of Male Sterilization
When we talk of the different methods of male sterilization, or Vasectomies, as they are more
commonly known, we come to conclude that many variations of the same method have come up in order to provide a safe
and comfortable sterility procedure, which would result in the best results to those who wish to have it carried
out on them. Generally speaking, the term vasectomy is used to describe a situation on which the tubes leading to
the seminal vesicle, the Vas Deferens are closed, so that the sperms do not get mixed with the semen and do not
reach the female vagina, so as to cause fertilization of the egg cells there.
Of the many and varied types of Vasectomies, the first one is the open Vasectomy. As the name
suggests, the surgeon first applies an anesthetic locally to the scrotum, in order to make it numb so that the
patient would not feel pain.
The surgeon then makes a good incision with the help of a scalpel on the scrotum and takes the vas deferens
out. These tubes are normally cut, tied off and then put back into place. After that, the incision is stitched
back, taking extreme care not to damage the testicles nearby. This method is good but causes a lot of pain and even
loss of mobility for males for the first few days after it has been performed. That is why such a method is fast
losing appeal these days.

Another more preferred method out of the many types of Vasectomies is known as the no scalpel
vasectomy, which is gaining popularity, both among the doctors and the patients. This method involves making two
small punctures on the scrotum, from which the vas deferens tubes are taken out, clipped, tied or sealed and then
put back in. The punctures on the scrotum are then closed either with sutures or with any method that the surgeon
considers appropriate. This method is much favored because of the relative ease, less complications and almost no
major bruising on part of the patient.
Then comes the procedure known as a clip vasectomy. There are different types of clips, which
surgeons may use in Vasectomies. These clips are used to clip in the tubes and can range in price from a few
dollars to $400 per pair, which are made from titanium. These clips reside permanently in the scrotum and can
sometimes be the cause of pain and bleeding.
A new addition to the different types of Vasectomies is the
laser vasectomy. This process differs from other processes in the sense that where a knife, scalpel or other
cutting tool is used to cut the vas deferens, laser is used in this method to seal the tube so that sperm cannot
pass on to the seminal vesicle. Although this method has been marketed to be safer and more comfortable than the
other methods, actual results do not point out to the fact that this method is in any way superior to the other
methods of vasectomy that are practiced at the moment.
